The Marriage of a Renegade Monk and Runaway Nun

On Today in Church His-Story (Episode 24) we consider the unlikely marriage of Martin Luther to Katie von Bora. When we think of the Reformation, we think of its impact on the church gathered, or on theology. But the Reformation greatly impacted the home as well. Luther was at the center of this controversy, first, through his matchmaking enterprise, and then by him entering into holy matrimony himself. Luther, the former monk, married von Bora, the former nun. Together they had a large family. Through his pastoral letters, sermons, lectures, and treatises, Luther spoke much about Biblical marriage. One of these important works is entitled, The Estate of Marriage. In this podcast, we look at a selection of this practically helpful treatise on marriage from a Reformation perspective.
