But the Jesus of the Bible is the God-Man, the King of Kings and Lord of Lord’s.

It has been my regular experience that the Holy Spirit is always faithful to give God’s people just what they need from God’s Word at just the time they need it. The Holy Spirit is the power behind sanctification. And the Word of God is the instrument He uses to sanctify us. Jesus Himself said, “Sanctify them in truth. Your Word is truth” (John 17:17). Why would we think anything other than the fact that the Spirit of God works in powerful ways when the book He authored is preached through in the very order He inspired it?

The Gospel Garment of Submission (Part 3)

The Christian woman is to wear the gospel garment of submission. Such spiritual clothing will be despised by the world. But the cross is scandalous, foolish, and weak before the world as well (I Corinthians 1:18; 21-25). Let women learn to be fools for Christ’s sake. The problem is not the weakness of salvation, but the weakness of the sinner in seeing the beauty of the cross. In the same vein, the problem is not the weakness of submission. It takes a spiritually strong woman to submit to her husband. The problem is the weakness of the sinner in seeing the beauty of submission.

The headship of the husband is not rogue. It has guardrails. It has a pattern. And that pattern is Christ Himself. Husband headship is to parallel Christ’s headship of the church. Christ earned that headship by sacrificing His life for the church. So too, a husband earns the loving submission of his wife when he sacrificially loves her.
